Sakura forecast 2025: When to see cherry blossoms in Japan this year

The cherry blossom season in Japan is always highly anticipated, and in 2025, the sakura bloom is predicted to begin around March 21 in Tokyo.

This marks the start of a spectacular season where the iconic cherry trees bloom in shades of pink and white, drawing both locals and tourists for hanami (flower viewing) picnics and celebrations.

Full bloom in Tokyo is expected around March 28, lasting for about a week before the petals begin to fall.

In other parts of Japan, such as Kyoto and Osaka, the sakura bloom will occur slightly later, usually in the last week of March.

Meanwhile, Hokkaido in the north will experience peak bloom around mid-April, making it the last region to fully embrace the sakura season.

The forecast suggests a slightly earlier bloom than usual in many areas, thanks to milder winter temperatures.

If you’re planning to see the cherry blossoms in Japan this year, mark your calendar for the end of March to early April for the best viewing opportunities!
