Chances of asteroid hitting Earth in 2032 double, according to AI

Recent reports have highlighted fluctuating probabilities regarding asteroid 2024 YR4's potential impact with Earth in December 2032.

Initial assessments indicated a 3.1% chance of collision, which was later adjusted to 1.5% by NASA and 2.8% by the European Space Agency (ESA).

However, more recent observations have significantly lowered this risk to approximately 0.16%.

It's important to note that these probabilities are subject to change as astronomers gather more data and refine the asteroid's trajectory.

The initial higher estimates were based on limited observations, and as more information becomes available, the calculated risk often decreases.

Experts emphasize that, despite early concerns, the likelihood of 2024 YR4 impacting Earth remains very low.

In summary, while initial AI-driven models suggested an increased probability of impact, subsequent and more comprehensive observations have substantially reduced the estimated risk.
