Dementia Mortality Tied to Olive Oil Consumption

Recent research suggests that regular olive oil consumption may significantly lower the risk of dying from dementia-related causes.

Olive Oil and Dementia Risk

A study published in JAMA Network Open examined over 92,000 U.S. adults across 28 years and found that those who consumed more than 7 grams (about half a tablespoon) of olive oil daily had a 28% lower risk of dementia-related mortality compared to those who rarely consumed it.

The study also revealed that swapping just one teaspoon of margarine or mayonnaise with olive oil led to an 8% to 14% reduction in dementia-related death rates.

This suggests that olive oil itself, rather than overall diet quality, plays a key role in brain health.
