Extinct Animals We’re Glad Aren’t Around Today

The saber-toothed tiger, with its razor-sharp teeth, was a terrifying predator. It could easily overpower prey, making it one animal we’re glad isn’t around today.

The woolly mammoth, towering over early humans, might have been majestic but also dangerous with its size and tusks. We're relieved it's no longer roaming the Earth.

The giant ground sloth, a herbivore, could weigh over 4,000 pounds and stand up to 20 feet tall. Its sheer size would make it intimidating to see in the wild.

The terror bird, a flightless, carnivorous bird from South America, could run at high speeds. It was a fierce predator that would have been dangerous to humans or other animals.

The dire wolf, closely related to modern wolves but much larger, hunted in packs and would have been a serious threat. It’s probably best they’re no longer part of the ecosystem.

The dodo, a flightless bird, was so large and slow that it couldn’t escape predators. Sadly, its extinction is a reminder of how vulnerable species can be in a changing environment.

The Megalodon, an ancient shark, could grow up to 60 feet long. Imagine swimming in the ocean with one of these giants hunting for food – no thank you!
