New Poll Reveals Who Californians Blame For Deadly Fires

A Rasmussen Reports survey conducted in January 2025 revealed that 61% of likely voters nationwide consider it at least somewhat likely that climate change is responsible for the Los Angeles wildfires, with 39% viewing it as unlikely.

The poll also highlighted a partisan divide: 77% of Democrats believe climate change is a likely cause, compared to 44% of Republicans.

In a poll surveying over 1,200 college students, only 3.6% strongly agreed that Governor Gavin Newsom was to blame for the California wildfires in Los Angeles.

This suggests that a majority do not hold the governor directly responsible for the fires.

Discussions have also centered around the role of utility companies in wildfire incidents. PG&E, California's largest electricity and gas distributor, reported a second consecutive year without major wildfires caused by its equipment.

Despite this, recent fires in Los Angeles have been linked to equipment from Southern California Edison, not PG&E

These findings indicate that while many Californians acknowledge climate change as a significant factor in the state's wildfires, there is less consensus on attributing blame to political figures or utility companies.
